How to Get a Deep Rose Colour with Just Red and Black Gel
Why I Love This Shade
There’s something about deep rose fondant that feels warm and elegant — it’s the kind of colour that works for both romantic bakes and modern floral sets. In this post, I’ll show you how to mix a rich deep rose shade using just two gel colours, and you’ll get a full gradient so you can choose the tone that suits your style.
What You'll Need:
- Red gel colour (I used Chefmaster Super Red)
- Black powder (I used Master Elite Black)
- White fondant (Queen or Coles brand works great)
- Toothpick or palette knife for measuring small amounts
- Silicone mat + gloves (optional but helpful)
Step-by-Step: Mixing Deep Rose
- Start with 100g white fondant
- Keep it at room temp so it’s easy to knead.
- Add 1 drop of red gel and knead thoroughly
- This will give you a classic mid-red base.
- Add a tiny amount of black powder (tip of a toothpick)
- Start small — you can always deepen the shade later. Mix thoroughly and check the tone.
- Adjust for your needs - Add more red for warmth, or slightly more black for a moodier rose.
Tips for Best Results
- Let your fondant rest for 10–15 mins — colours deepen slightly as they set.
- This shade looks amazing when paired with blush pink or muted greens.
- Store leftover fondant in an airtight bag to stop it drying out
